I’ll throw in that it is much easier to drive an STi fast. AWD helps a lot when it comes to road racing and auto-x.
The SRT-4 is fast though…really fast…I have a lot of respect for it. I just wouldn’t pay money to run that much power through the front wheels. Oh and don’t forget its a Dodge Neon and the resale is terrible.
Wow, the subaru is a way better car, fast as hell and suspension that is remarkable. those cars are built for abilities like drifting and rallys. Plus subaru’s are built very well with little problems and with a boxter (horizontal design) engine, your front end is very balenced, great for better handling. something those dodge’s dont have. dodge just focuses on power and not on how to control it. big mistake.
From a dig the STi can yank enough off the line to keep ahead of an SRT-4 if they get a perfect launch, this is stock to stock mind you, after mods come into play it can go either direction. From a roll an SRT4 has no troubles with a stock STi, for those that say a regular wrx can take one they don’t know what they are talking about, maybe 0-60, but after that an SRT4 will hand a regular wrx it’s ***. Take it past the quarter mile, and even from a stop the SRT4 will catch up and eat an STI alive. The STi is capable of low 13s quarter mile due to it’s launch, here’s the kicker, even though the SRT4 runs typically about 1/2-3/4 second slower than the STi in the quarter mile, it traps the same or higher than an STi which shows that if it goes beyond the quarter, bye bye STi. the 02-03 SRT-4 had a little less power and had no LSD so they had horrid traction problems, but still had little trouble dispensing with a wrx.
Ok, lets look at the stats, I’ll use 05 numbers since that was the last srt-4):
WRX STi 300hp 300lb-ft 3298lbs STIs typically dyno about 225-230hp and 215lb-ft on a mustang dyno in stock form, that equates to about 14.6lbs per hp. They typically run the quarter mid to low 13s in stock form, trapping 98-100mph
WRX 227hp 217lb-ft 3085lbs, typically dyno 155-160 and 140-145lb-ft in stock form on a mustang dyno, that equates to about 19.9lbs per hp. They typically run mid to low 14s in stock form in the 1320 trapping at 90-93mph.
SRT-4 225hp 245lb-ft and 2900lbs. the 04-05 typically dyno about 225-230whp on a mustang and 245-250lb-ft, they are known for being WAY under rated. That comes out to about 12.8lbs per hp. They have serious traction issues through first and second, which is a big advantage of the STI. They typically run very low 14s to mid 13s trapping 100-104mph STOCK
Looking at real numbers its easy to see.
For what it is/was, the SRT4 was a hell of a car, when it comes to the tight stuff it wasn’t too bad, it can easily outhandle a wrx, but an STi has just enough prowess to be able to take care of one of the track.
I’ve driven a friends 400whp SRT4 and that thing is just scary, it is sooo hard to control and keep the power down, but it is no doubt fast as hell. Having that much power through wrong wheel drive is…for the lack of a better term wrong :p

You don’t need an STI, the regular WRX will out run an SRT-4.

depends…if one of them has turbo,then thats the fastest one…but if youre talkin about their own regular engine….subaru should win…
