JDM = Japanese Domestic Market. The model is imported to your country ( UK?) from Japan. It is a Japanese spec. model. That is not bad but see some technical details about engines exhausts.
STI = Subaru Technica International. Its something like the M-division of BMW or AMG of Mercedes only this belongs to “mother” factory of Subaru (Fuji Heavy Industries).
About the retailer i don’t know anything. I am not from UK. I am a big fun of Subaru and owner of 2 Subaru Cars and a racing one
i’d buy import.
SUBARU TECNICA INTERNATIONAL =sti
JAPANESE DOMESTIC MARKET = jdm
sti has better engine internals than a uk model (AWD 2000 turbo), meaning stronger engine as well as faster.
do not listen to this below
for one thing, that car has almost certainly had a very hard life. everyone who could get their hands on it will almost certainly have driven it hard (owners, car park valets, mechanics, shippers, dealers, if they had a chance to drive that car, they would have abused it) and you likely had no maintenance records to show that there was at least some maintenance to offset the hard use
(every car gets driven by mechanics, dealers ect, so best never to buy a car??)
lastly, if something goes wrong, you need to have access to someone who knows how to work on grey market cars. at least hear in the US, japanese market cars are wired very differently from US market cars, so electrical work is a big pain
(maybe problem in US but not in UK, any subaru garage can get parts ect. every single old shape WRX 1993-2000 you see on the roads in the uk is an import as the awd 2000 turbo and p1 is the only uk model)
its a nice car but i would be very careful buying a grey market import, especially a STi

and make sure you can insure it for a reasonable rate
long story short.. if its a race car and you have the expertise and cash flow to keep it running , go for it. fantastic machine. if its your daily driver and you have limited funds.. proceed with extreme caution as grey market high performance cars can turn into money pits quickly
My 99 subaru impreza wagon has all of those features and it was only half the price of that thing! Thats probably alot nicer however! Great car man, although I don’t prefer the 2000 model years looks, I would get a 99 or a 06.
I almost bought a 02 JDM STi white, but then the 08 came n bought that instead(dont ask why, but i luv it!). Anyway, its worth it!. My 08 is made in JP and its very reliable n has great quality!. N the engine is better than the US and euro spec. of the STi. responds btter as well. Overall, yeah its a great car!.
oh yeah, the guys up there got the right answer
JDM- Japanese Domestic Market- cars, parts or any other only made for the Japanese market
STI(formerly STi)- Subaru Technica International- the tunning company of Subaru.
I loke big cars
they ALL have done 40K- look and u will see. dont beleive this is coinsidence. its just what they change them to when they get imported. cud have done any mileage. and you will need to spend about £300 have the engine managemnt ajusted to get rid of the 112mph limiter that all jap car are set to by law. (or u can keep it standard and get over taken on motorway by granny in her micra if u prefer) It might need new clocks in MPH insted of KPH, they prob done this already (they will say for your conveniece but its really so they can get at the milegae to change it to their favourite number of 40,000). You will need to buy and have fitted a wave band expander for the radio so that it pick up british stations -another £200 quid or so. Your insurance compnay will charge you EVEN more for an import. If wont have a tracker fitted which you WILL HAVE to get if you want it insured.. the cheapest are about £350 (but realisticly u need to spend about £500-600 for a decsnt one) fitted with an anual subscription charge of about £150 a year cheapeast. they take the 1st year up front btw.
Buy a UK car and save loads.
the JDM version is likely geared lower to better match the lower speeds on Japanese roads, so it should be more fun on the freeway, but not so good for long high speed trips where you will be cruising over 150KPH for hours.
it is geared in 5th like the US WRX version ratio for 4th
it likely has a top speed of about 215KPH, but the low end acceleration should be great.
if your thinking about the EVO, remember that the big difference between the EVO and the STI is that:
EVOs are easy to drive and the fastest on dry pavement.
the STI is a pain to drive, and really fast on dirt, gravel, and wet roads.
there is a reason that 9 out of 10 rally race drivers prefer mitsubishi, but it is the subaru that wins the race.
its a good car, the real question is if it is worth the price they are asking, and I just don’t know about your area,
S T I == Sport . Turing . Injection
J D M == Sorry I don’t know this one.
im wondering is there any difference between the 2000 and 2002 v7 cos im looking at getting 1 and are wondering if they changed the moyor at all is it better to get the 01-92???
